Watershed Technical Training in Stream Restoration

Join expert instructors Van Clothier and Craig Sponhotlz for a Watershed Technical Training in Stream Restoration will provide participants with a basic understanding of how desert streams and arroyos function, how they change over time, and the human influence on them, both positive and negative. Based on this foundation, students will then participate in hands-on sessions in site assessment, design, and implementation of small-scale restoration features. Emphasis will also be placed on urban wash restoration approaches and practices from backyard to larger drainage scales.

The course curriculum includes:

  • Classroom lectures
  • Site assessment, surveying, design, and planning sessions
  • Hands-on restoration workshops
  • Tour of local restoration sites

Application Process

To apply, download the full Stream Restoration course announcement and application and submit it by email to Tory Syracuse, tsyracuse@watershedmg.org, or by mail to: Watershed Management Group, PO Box 44205, Tucson, AZ, 85733.  Please note: If you are emailing an application between July 23 and August 7, please send it to Catlow Shipek, catlow@watershedmg.org, instead of Tory Syracuse.

Application Deadlines & Course Fees

To qualify for the early registration fee of $400 ($350 for alumni*), course application must be emailed or postmarked by August 1, 2011.

To qualify for the regular registration fee of $500 ($450 for alumni*), course application must be emailed or postmarked by September 1, 2011.

*Alumni rates are available to previous participants in WMG’s Water Harvesting Certification course or Watershed Technical Trainings.

Limited scholarships up to $150 are available – see course announcement for further details.
