Know Your Watershed
The New Mexico State Land Office offers an environmental education program called "Know Your Watershed." This program is designed for 2nd, 4th and 6th grade students, with the purpose of connecting students to their environment by learning about something that is relevant to their everyday lives. Through this program, students learn what a watershed is, sources of water pollution and the difference between a sewer system and a storm drain. In addition, using local maps, students locate their school, their neighborhood and then determine what watershed they live in. Students then discover where the sources of pollution are in their communities. Students also get an opportunity to develop a "pseudo" piece of waterfront property and discuss the positive and/or negative impacts their developments might have on the adjacent river as well as property downstream.

The Know Your Watershed program is offered to 2nd, 4th and 6th grade classes throughout the state at no cost.
Presentations are 1 hour in length and can be scheduled anytime, Monday-Friday.
