Join expert instructors Van Clothier and Craig Sponhotlz for a Watershed Technical Training in Stream Restoration will provide participants with a basic understanding of how desert streams and arroyos function, how they change over time, and the human influence on them, both positive and negative. Based on this foundation, students will then participate in hands-on sessions in site assessment, design, and implementation of small-scale restoration features. Emphasis will also be placed on urban wash restoration approaches and practices from backyard to larger drainage scales.

FREE Workshop to improve wildlife habitat in Red Canyon Reserve in the eastern foothills of the San Mateo Mountains, Socorro County, New Mexico.

Hosted by: Natural Resources Conservation Service, New Mexico Environment Department, and the Grant Soil and Water Conservation District Speakers include technical experts from the state and national NRCS offices. The workshop will include classroom and field components. Registration is now open for the Society of American Foresters' National Workshop on Climate and Forests! The Workshop's purpose is: to extend greater understanding of the current adaptation and mitigation options (the 5-R's) for forest management; to make state-of-the-art climatic and ecological planning tools accessible and useful for decision makers, forest resource managers and extension educators at all levels; to explore how to make these options and tools better utilized by the various forest resource managers and extension educators across the country; and to foster understanding of where scientific research and practitioners' expectations intersect to generate the best management decisions.
